Organs Safeguard Campus Security
April 30, 2023Public security organs and education authorities across the country in recent years have carried out activities and special rectification work aimed at ensuring campus security, notes officials of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS). Such efforts have included accelerating the construction of security systems on campuses, strengthening security patrols around campuses, and cracking down on criminal acts involving schools (that happen on and around campuses). The efforts have effectively ensured the safety of teachers and students on campuses.
In 2022, public security organs checked and rectified 720,000 potential safety hazards on campuses, and in 120,000 places, in areas neighboring the schools, with hidden dangers (which may disturb or have disturbed campus security). In addition, they resolved 22,000 disputes involving schools and/or students. Given the joint efforts of relevant departments, criminal cases involving schools in 2022 dropped 30.7 percent year-on-year, marking such a decline for 10 consecutive years.
Last year, MPS, with the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Supreme People's Court and three other departments, issued a document to guide local governments in regulating the appointment and management of deputy principals for education on the rule of law in primary and secondary schools, and to promote the healthy growth of minors. After several rounds of field research, solicitation of opinions, discussion and review, MPS and MOE organized relevant units to complete the revision of security requirements for kindergartens and primary and secondary schools, to provide support for the strengthening of the safety protection system in kindergartens and primary and secondary schools across the country.
